Het bestand geeft informatie over de vorm, het reliëf en de ontstaanswijze. Aanvullend op de beschrijving van de landvormen is op de kaart informatie te vinden over afwijkende geologische afzettingen in de bovengrond zoals opgebracht materiaal en eventuele bijzonderheden in het reliëf zoals vergravingen. Ook wordt beschreven of de landvorm onder invloed staat van actieve geomorfologische processen, zoals stuivende kust- en landduinen en sedimentatie en erosie in en langs grote rivieren en op slikken en schorren. De kaart is gemaakt voor een schaal van 1:50.000. De kaart is landsdekkend, maar in stedelijke gebieden is weinig tot geen informatie te geven. Vanaf 2019 wordt bij actualisatie van de kaart ook onder de bebouwing gekarteerd. De gebruiksschaal varieert van landelijk tot gemeentelijk.
